New Opel Facility Will Develop and Test Engines

When completed in 2017, the Rüsselsheim construction will support GM Powertrain future programs.

Opel recently broke ground on a €210 million expansion of its Rüsselsheim International Technical Development center (ITDC) that will be used to develop and test engines. The 36,000-m² (400,000-ft²) expansion will be completed in 2017. It will support development of 17 new engines intended for 27 new vehicle models currently in the pipeline. The new facility, a key part of GM Powertrain Engineering, will feature 43 latest-generation performance test benches, according to the company. Opel plans to increase its European market share by 8% by 2022.
