Tata Launches Family of Petrol Engines
Tata Motors on Jan. 20 announced the launch of a new petrol engine family for Tata passenger vehicles called Revotron. The first to come out of the family of three- and four-cylinders is the four-cylinder Revotron 1.2T, a turbocharged unit delivering 140 N·m (103 lb·ft) from 1750-3500 rpm and 85 PS (84 hp) maximum power at 5000 rpm. Bore is 75.0 mm (3.0 in) and stroke is 69.5 mm (2.7 in). It has a single overhead camshaft (two valves per cylinder) and a compression ratio of 9:3. The injectors have eight holes and function under an "innovative calibration strategy." Tata worked closely with several companies in developing the engine, including AVL, Bosch, Honeywell (the turbocharger is a water-cooled unit with low-mass wheel), Mahle, and INA.
