Optical Muzzle Flash Detection Sensors
An optical detector technology from Cal Sensors detects muzzle flash from over 100 meters away. Operating at the speed of light, optical flash detection systems provide an almost instantaneous response to a gunfire event. The realtime detection capabilities give the targets the critical seconds needed to duck and apply counter-measures.
Unlike acoustic detectors, the optical devices do not detect other loud noises, such as car backfires, and can be designed to reject optical signals that are outside the desired detection bandwidth. They are also not susceptible to the reverberation of sound off of structures in the vicinity of the gunfire. The determination of the location of the shooter is therefore not hampered by the receipt of multiple signals from different locations for one event.
Cal Sensors detectors provide sensitivity over the 1-5.5 micron wavelengths. Single-element, multi-channel, and array options are available. Features include optional spectral filters, optical condensers, thermoelectric coolers, temperature sensors, and integrated drive electronics.
