LWIR camera

Sierra-Olympic Technologies (Hood River, OR) has introduced the new Viento HD IP67, a full HD 1080p thermal camera with an IP67 environmentally-rated enclosure. The high-definition longwave-infrared (LWIR) imager is fully enclosed in a rugged housing that provides total protection against dust, and protects against the effects of water immersion to depths between 15 cm and 1 meter.

The Viento HD IP67 delivers true 1920 × 1200 pixel resolution utilizing an uncooled vanadium oxide (VOx) sensor with a capacity of over 2.3 million pixels on a 12-micron pixel pitch. The uncooled microbolometer detector also provides long life for the camera system by eliminating the need for a cryocooler that would require periodic replacement or servicing.

Sierra-Olympic's high-def camera system offers HD-SDI, h.264 IP, or 16-bit, full-dynamic-range digital data or digital data with automatic gain control (AGC). The digital acquisition system includes a configured frame grabber for full-frame rate, full bit depth acquisition, and display. The Viento HD camera system includes integrated image enhancement functions and a 24 mm F1.1 athermalized custom-designed optic. It is available with a hard carbon-coated 24 mm fixed focal length lens; custom lenses are also available upon request. Booth #2012

Flat Ethernet Cables

For Ethernet applications that require flexible and lightweight cable designs, Cicoil (Valencia, CA) offers filler-free, Cat 5e and Cat 6A Ethernet Cables. These flexible flat cables don't require cumbersome insulating materials, fillers, talc and tapes. Cicoil's patented extrusion process allows 4 individually shielded 100 Ohm pairs to be placed in a small, flat profile, precisely controlling the spacing of each component, insulation thickness and the overall cable shape. Each pair is separately encased in a solid, one-piece construction, ensuring that they do not rub against each other and wear during a lifetime of 15 million flexing cycles.

The outer jacket is self-healing from small punctures and will not wear, crack or deform due to long term exposure to vibration, sunlight, temperature extremes (-65°C to +165°C), acid, submersion in water, sea ice, steam, coarse sand, flames, radiation, alcohol, mechanical stress, humidity, ozone, UV light, high altitudes, autoclave and many chemicals. Standard “off the shelf” Cat 5e and Cat 6A Cables are available, complete with connectors, in 3 foot, 6 foot and 12 foot lengths. Booth #1549

VPX Backplane

Elma Electronic (Fremont, CA) announced a first-of-its-kind, high speed 3U VPX backplane that supports integration of mixed payload modules, including COTS single board computers, switches and RF payloads for computer architectures used by the DOD's Hardware/Software Convergence Initiative. Unique to this backplane is its support of high speed signals on all the data paths as well as leading edge VITA 67.3 connectors compatible with legacy VITA 67.1 and VITA 66.4 RF and optical I/O connectors.

This is the first VPX backplane with a radial slot card for timing and synchronization. The 3U, 12-slot backplane includes 7 slots that receive radial clock signals (Aux Clk and Ref Clk) driven independently from a radial clock timing card. The remaining 5 slots receive standard VPX bussed Aux_Clk and Ref_Clk signals. The timing card slot also supports a VITA 67.3c connector with 10 SMPM cavities.

Four payload slots, each equipped with a combination VITA 67.3c optical and RF connector in the J2 position are also featured on the backplane. The slot 2 switch supports a VITA 67.3d connector module compatible with a payload module fitted with a VITA 66.4 MT optical ribbon connector or a VITA 67.1 RF coaxial connector. Booth # 2146

SCALEXIO Processing Unit

dSPACE (Wixom, MI) has introduced an additional Processing Unit for SCALEXIO hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test systems. Equipped with an octa-core Intel Xeon Processor E5, the new Processing Unit is ideal for the parallel execution of complex and computationally intensive simulation models. The new Processing Unit with 8 cores is especially recommended for customers who often have to compute very large simulation models in parallel, such as those for vehicle dynamics simulation with detailed chassis and tire models. For use cases that require a strong computation performance of each individual core, dSPACE continues to provide the quad-core Processing Unit with an Intel Xeon Processor E3 and equally high performance.

SCALEXIO is a modular real-time system used for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing. During HIL simulation, SCALEXIO allows for a highly precise real-time simulation of computation-intensive models and supports a high number of I/O functions as well as current bus and network systems such as CAN, CAN FD, LIN, FlexRay, and Ethernet. The I/O channels are specified with the central configuration software ConfigurationDesk. Using the dSPACE IOCNET technology makes it easy to extend the system and set up decentralized systems. SCALEXIO can also be coupled with existing dSPACE HIL simulators. Booth #2958

Auto-Test and Alignment Software

Cobham (Dorset, England) announced the release of a new automated test and alignment software application to support the new Motorola APX “B” Radios. The software application is available as an option on both the 3920B Series Analog and Digital Radio Test Platform and the 8800SX Series Digital Radio Test Set. The software application fully automates APX “B” radio testing and alignment. It also ensures optimum radio performance in significantly less time, while minimizing service and support costs for end users and dealers.

The 3920B, with its low phase noise RF signal generator, is the primary radio test system approved by Motorola for automated testing and alignment of the APX Series of radios. The 3920B has undergone extensive testing and approval by the Motorola Continuing Product Engineering (CPE) group for the APX radio.

The 8800SX offers APX testing and alignment capabilities while also providing “pick up and go” capabilities for field test applications. With the industry's largest color display, lightweight design, ruggedness, and 2½ hour battery operation, the 8800SX is ready for any test environment, whether on the bench or in the field. Hybrid Wankel Engine

German engine manufacturer 3W-International GmbH (Bad Homburg, Germany) is expanding its range of drive products for UAVs with the introduction of its new 3W-180 SRE Hybrid Wankel engine that can be fuelled by either petrol or kerosene. The 3W-180 SRE Hybrid has 180 ccm and as a short engine weighs 6.8 kg. In the high-power version, at 7500 rpm it delivers 38.5 hp (nominal power 28 hp at 6000 rpm). From this there results a power-to-weight ratio of 5.66 hp/kg, with a fuel consumption of 340g/KW at full load. The weight rises to 9.5 kg when the engine is fitted with an electric motor (starter generator). The generator also charges the super capacitors which turn the Wankel engine into a hybrid drive.

The 3W-180 SRE Hybrid is equipped with two independent cooling systems. A water cooling circuit undertakes the cooling of the engine housing, a second, oil cooling circuit, undertakes the internal cooling of the piston. This is a fundamental prerequisite for a drive system in aviation applications for which continuous power is also a fundamental requirement. Booth #3131
