SAE International and its Sustainable Mobility Solutions (SMS) are making big moves, and the nation’s taking notice.
On Wednesday, February 15, The White House released a press statement outlining the United State’s progress toward a national network of electric vehicle chargers and new technical standards to support the future of the industry. This update is part of the national push toward net-zero emissions by 2050 through a more than $14.5 billion investment in EV technology and clean transportation from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law—and it mentions SAE International by name.
In an outline of industry efforts and collaborations around the country, the release cites SMS’s partnership with ChargerHelp! as a critical part of the manufacturing boom around EV technology and workforce development. The statement reads:
“ChargerHelp! and SAE International’s Sustainable Mobility Solutions have announced a partnership to assist in the EV charging workforce development for the next generation of Certified Electric Vehicle Service Equipment (EVSE) Maintenance Technicians. The EVSE Field Technician Program will certify skills needed by EVSE field technicians to diagnose, report and help repair technical components of the charging equipment, including hardware and software issues. Within the next two years, this national program will help more than 3,000 trainees from low-income, disadvantaged, typically underrepresented communities, and those transitioning from other industries reach these technology-forward jobs”
