Nexteer Opens Manufacturing Plant in Pune
Nexteer Automotive opened a new manufacturing plant in Pune, India in late September, which makes it the third manufacturing plant in India for the China-owned steering and driveline supplier. Joining plants in Bangalore and Gurgaon, the Pune facility is the 22nd plant within Nexteer’s global manufacturing footprint.
“The opening of our facility in Pune and our expanded production capacity in India are important pieces in our long-term development strategy in India and represents our confidence in the growth potential of the automotive market within this region,” said Tao Liu, global vice president and Asia Pacific chief operating officer of Nexteer Automotive. “With this strategic addition, we are able to better serve customers in both the domestic and international markets.”
The Nexteer Pune plant will focus mainly on halfshaft component manufacturing and assembly for local customers, as well as supplying its Gurgaon plant. The new plant may also expand into electric power steering (EPS) production in the future, the company noted.
The Pune plant, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nexteer Automotive, covers 35,000 ft2 with the capability to double that floor space. The facility also provides 5,700 ft2 of office space, Madhav Kulkarni, managing director, Nexteer India, said.
The company anticipates that the new plant will provide 120 job opportunities in Pune by the end of 2017.
