Engine Start Module

Maxwell Technologies expands the ultracapacitor-based Engine Start Module (ESM) product line from class 7 and 8 heavy-duty diesel to class 3 through 6 medium-duty trucks. The ESM ULTRA 31/900 offers 900-A cold cranking or a 3-second crank; reliable starting for diesel engines up to 9.9 L at temperatures from -40 to +65°C (-40 to +149°F); low maintenance operation and improved vehicle reliability; extended battery life and integration with systems; and a built-in, 15-min quick charging system. Maxwell's ESM ULTRA 31/900 starts reliably and effectively eliminates cranking problems from weak or discharged batteries, delivering the quick-burst power trucks need to crank their engines in extreme cold. The rugged ESM weighs 16 lb (7 kg) and allows use of liftgates and buckets while the engine is off.
