Flywheel Power System
Pentadyne Power Corp., Chatsworth, CA, offers the VSS+DCadvanced DC flywheel power system that stores energy kinetically instead of chemically, providing stable DC voltage for applications where power continuity is critical, such as homeland security,military, and defense applications. The system's VSS (VoltageSupport Solution™) connects to the DC bus of an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). Using one or several paralleled systems can serve the power requirements of most UPS systems. Used in parallel with batteries, the system provides battery protection by correcting short disturbances and preserving battery capacity for longer disturbances. The system also provides ride-through time to bridge, to standby generators, for continued power during long-term grid-power outages.
Features of the system include high power density, efficiency greater than 99.8%, self-diagnostics and alarms for all critical components, a menu-driven LCD control panel, recharge of ~20 seconds, programmable voltage and current settings, and soft-start UPS integration. The system is housed in a cabinet with casters for roll-into-place set-up, and features top or side entry. DC input/output voltage is 350 to 900 VDC, with DC output voltage regulation of ±1% steady state.Optional features include an emergency power-off button, an air filter for dusty environments, and remote control and monitoring options.
