Continental Aerospace Technologies Team with VerdeGo to Develop Hybrid Electric Urban Air Mobility Systems

Mobile, Alabama-based Continental Aerospace Technologies is partnering with VerdeGo Aero Inc. to develop VerdeGo’s Integrated Distributed Electric Propulsion (IDEP) concept for urban air mobility and vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) applications. Continental, a leader in engine design, certification, and manufacturing for general aviation, will led its experience in developing reliable powerplants to create electric aircraft powertrain systems capable of fulfilling demanding commercial missions.
While Continental is established in AvGas and diesel cycle general aviation engines, turbocharging, fuel injection, balanced fuel injectors, liquid cooling, and Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC), and many other technologies, the company is looking to shift along with the market toward hybrid-electric and distributed propulsion technology.
“This strategic partnership continues Continental’s long history of innovation and expands beyond general aviation into emerging commercial markets requiring hybrid-electric propulsion,” says Rhett Ross, president and CEO of Continental Aerospace Technologies. “Continental, as always, remains at the forefront of innovation and intends to lead the aerospace market through its next breakthrough. Since our birth, over 115 years ago, we continuously innovate to be the first choice in general aviation.”
