Argonne Announces New Initiative, VERIFI, to Optimize Engine Combustion
Argonne National Laboratory used the first day of the SAE 2014 World Congress in Detroit on April 8 to launch a new program designed to help automakers design more efficient engines via optimized combustion. Called VERIFI (Virtual Engine Research Institute and Fuels Initiative), the program builds on the lab’s already extensive expertise in engine combustion research to allow for very fast simulations, according to Sibendu Som, Principal Mechanical Engineer and a Computational Fellow at Argonne. He leads Argonne’s CFD team for engine design. Som said VERIFI is the first and only source in the world for high-fidelity, 3-D, end-to-end, combustion engine simulation and visualization using uncertainty quantification.
