Motor Stator Busbar

Interplex (Tustin, CA) has introduced its Motor Stator Busbars for EVs, which efficiently and effectively connect the stator windings of a high-voltage traction motor to its power source. Motor stator busbars are designed to handle a full range of high-voltage current requirements and use high-performance copper integrated with special polymer materials for optimal dielectric isolation and improved thermal characteristics. Through advanced fabrication techniques, the busbars are custom shaped and assembled. The compact busbars can therefore seamlessly integrate into traction motors, which enables engineers to optimize current flow at an overall lower cost of deployment compared to conventional wiring techniques. Options include multi-phase stator bars to handle 3-phase or 6-phase application requirements, along with interconnect options for brazing, pluggable, laser welding or bolt-on.

Liquid-Cooled Power Solution

Advanced Energy Industries (Georgetown, MA) has released a new high-power, liquid-cooled configurable power solution. The iHP Liquid is the latest addition to a wide range of intelligent, digitally configurable power solutions that provide flexible power in a wide range of industrial, lighting, horticulture, medical, and semiconductor applications. Capable of delivering up to 20 kW of power within a 4U rack form factor, the iHP Liquid is a fully sealed unit that can be used in an environment where fan-based air cooling is not desirable. It can be configured to either a single output or up to eight outputs upon request. A total of 10 output modules are available that can be programmed to operate in constant voltage or constant current modes. Each module is highly adjustable and flexibility is further enhanced with the ability to combine modules in series or parallel to increase voltage or current as necessary. As a result, the iHP can deliver currents as high as 1600 A or voltages up to 1000 V. Offered with 3-phase, 4-wire (Wye or Delta) input, the iHP contains active power factor correction (PFC), ensuring a very low THD and power factor that exceeds 0.98 at full load.

Acrylic-Based Binders

Arkema (King of Prussia, PA) has introduced a new family of products for use inside the EV and ESS battery cell using the INCELLION™ brand name. These products include advanced acrylic-based binders, dispersants, and rheology modifiers designed to optimize the formulations of electrode and separator solutions tailored for both existing and next generation cell components. Specific product lines include Waterborne Acrylic Binders: INCELLION™ El waterborne acrylic polymers are used as binders for active materials of the anode allowing higher Si formulation while providing mechanical strength and flexibility to address volume expansion; Acrylic-Based Primers: INCELLION™ Pr acrylic based primers are key components of the collector of the electrodes to improve the adhesion and performance continuity across the cathode system; and Rheology Additives: INCELLION™ Rh rheology additives are used to improve the flow properties of the active material slurry for optimal coating on the electrodes and the separator. The targeted result is higher cell performance with faster charging, longer lifecycle durability, and increased energy density while ensuring world class safety and environmental compliance.

Battery Cycler and Test System

EA Elektro-Automatik (San Diego, CA) has announced a compact, automated battery cycler and test system that will enable manufacturers to better test EV batteries as the industry evolves to higher power battery technologies. The 10300 Series ATE system offers high power density: 300 kW in a single 42U-high rack that consumes only 6.5 square feet of production-floor space, one-third the space of the leading brand. Users may parallel racks for up to 3.84 MW of testing capability. This advance is a significant advantage for the industry, where production floor space is at a premium or just unavailable. The new series offers 2000 VDC capacity for testing high-voltage battery packs. In addition, each rack can supply and sink up to 2,400 A per rack, and the system offers up to 30,720 A total capacity. This facilitates battery pulse testing, which may require exponentially higher current than the battery AH rating. Until now, the only way to get this performance was to build and maintain an expensive custom system. In contrast, the off-the-shelf 10300 Series is a complete COTS turnkey solution.
