Image Sensor

Melexis introduces the MLX75421 Blackbird third-generation automotive image sensor. The high dynamic range (HDR) sensor features on-chip functional safety (ASIL) support for applications including automatic emergency braking, camera monitor systems, and autonomous evasive steering. The sensor generates an embedded flag for every frame based on intensive run-time self-testing and features a resolution of 1344 x 1008 pixels with a 1/3-in (8.5-mm) optical format and four stabilized kneepoint response curve that provides up to 125 dB of HDR. Full frame rate is 45 frames/s, and the Blackbird offers a dark leakage of less than five electrons/s and dark temporal noise of less than 4.4 electrons for a 1/30 s exposure time. Other features include reduced flicker effect and operating temperature range of -40 to +115°C (-40 to +239°F).
