Rugged Computer

The Golden Eye II from General Micro Systems (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) is a rugged computer system based on the Intel® Penryn processor. It features up to a 2.26-GHz Core 2 Duo processor with 6 Mbytes of L2 cache, and is supported by up to 8 Gbytes of memory and up to 2 Tbytes of removable storage. It is available in two standard configurations: the S802-R has one removable solid-state drive with up to 500 Gbytes of storage, and the S802-R4 has four removable solid-state drives with 2 Tbytes of storage. The S802-R4 units have a combination of drive bays for removable drives and PCMCIA slots.

The system measures 5.25 × 5.25 × 2" and weighs 2.5 pounds. It is watertight to 10 meters, and is impervious to dust, dirt, and salt. It can be mounted on the inside or outside of any vehicle. The system incorporates hermetically sealed connectors that stay watertight even when the cables and drives have been removed. The solid-state drives are housed in a sealed, rugged case. Other features include four-channel video capture, two Dual Redundant 1553 channels, WiFi, Bluetooth, and dual-pipe support for RGB video.
