Polarfire Core FPGAs

Microchip Technology (Chandler, AZ) has released the new PolarFire® Core Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) and System on Chips (SoCs). The new devices are a derivative of the base PolarFire families and reduce customer costs by up to 30 percent by optimizing features and removing integrated transceivers. Designed for automotive, industrial automation, medical, communication, defense and aerospace markets, PolarFire Core families feature Single Event Upset (SEU) immunity for mission-critical reliability and integrate a quad-core, 64-bit RISC-V® microprocessor (MPU) for flexible compute capabilities. Additionally, the Core devices are designed to be pin-to-pin compatible with the full line of PolarFire FPGAs to accommodate various design SKUs, enhancing value for applications that prioritize cost efficiency over a range of unnecessary features.

SSEAC Subsea Actuator

The SSEAC® is an electromechanical subsea actuator from WITTENSTEIN motion control Gmbh (Igersheim, Germany), developed as an innovative solution for actuating choke and other valves in subsea applications. Rated for a service life of at least 25 years, this actuator controls the continuous flow of gases and liquids at a depth of up to 4000 meters. The complex hydraulic systems traditionally chosen for this purpose are now a thing of the past: instead, the SSEAC® has two redundant 24 V motors that drive the actuator’s planetary gearbox and enable precise rotary adjustment of the valves.

Snap Ferrites

Snap ferrites, developed in-house with technology using keys for retroactive cable noise suppression, are among the products that have made Würth Elektronik (Igersheim, Germany) so wellknown. The STAR TEC and STAR-TEC LFS product families have since grown: There is now a ferrite available for cable diameters of 2 to 3 mm that features all the proven practical benefits familiar from Würth Elektronik snap ferrites. The STAR-TEC snap ferrites are used for retroactive suppression of frequency-dependent and conducted interference on single conductors in the frequency range from 1 MHz to 1 GHz. The STAR-TEC LFS series of snap ferrites were specifically designed for low-frequency applications in the 300 kHz to 30 MHz range. The new snap ferrites, designed specifically for thin cables, offer the crucial advantage of integrated cable fixation, allowing them to be attached without additional tools such as cable ties, heat shrink tubing, or adhesive tape.

Piezo Actuator

PI (Auburn, MA) is extending the capabilities of its renowned PICMA® piezo stack actuator series with the introduction of the new PICMA® Plus actuators. While the standard PICMA® actuators are already celebrated for their long lifetime, high stiffness, microsecond response times, and sub-nanometer resolution, the PICMA® Plus line represents a significant advancement by offering substantially greater displacement. Previously, PI’s quickly available PICMA® piezo actuators provided displacement ranges from 6.5 microns to 36 microns per monolithic stack. The new PICMA® Plus actuators build upon this proven foundation by delivering even longer travel ranges up to 43 microns, allowing for applications requiring larger displacement in the same package size, without sacrificing the core benefits of the PICMA® technology.

Nitrowave Cable Assemblies

Samtec, Inc. (New Albany, IN) announced production quantity availability of its highly stable, low-loss flexible microwave cable assemblies using Nitrowave™ cable technology. Nitrowave cable – recognizable by the distinctive Samtec orange FEP jacket – is available in target frequencies of 32 GHz, 43.5 GHz, 71 GHz, 95 GHz and 110 GHz with the following product series: LL032, LL043, LL071, LL095 and LL110. A Dynamic Performance Layer (DPL) improves durability and stability of the cable by eliminating friction between shielding and augmenting strength. This results in more accurate, dependable performance throughout the service life of the cable, even when subjected to consistent movement and bending. Target applications include lab test environments such as test & measurement and high-speed digital testing, ATE systems, and low-loss rugged environments such as aerospace, defense and datacom.
