All-Wheel Drive Protection System

Safe Shift all-wheel drive protection system from Marmon-Herrington (Louisville, KY) is a proprietary electronic control system that prevents damage to axle, driveline, and transfer case components commonly caused by improper operation. New features of the third-generation system include an easier-to-use LCD driver interface, simpler installation, PTO protection and the potential to run at faster baud rates for future system advancements. Safe Shift protects against driveline damage by continuously monitoring vehicle conditions through the chassis CAN bus and preventing improper shifting by the operator. The new LCD user interface provides on-screen feedback and a visual understanding of proper all-wheel drive operation as a means of improving driver behavior. According to the company, proper operation ultimately provides fleets with increased uptime, avoidance of expensive repairs to drivetrain components and extended vehicle service life.
