MEMS Gyroscope
Analog Devices (Norwood, MA) has released the ADIS16136 iSensor® digital MEMS gyroscope, which provides 3.50/hr typical bias stability in a module consuming less than 1 watt and weighing 25 grams. The tactical grade (below 100/hr bias stability) iSensor MEMS gyroscope operates autonomously and does not require user configuration before producing rate sensing data.
The ADIS16136 provides data at rates of up to 2048 SPS (samples per second) and offers an averaging/decimation filter structure for optimizing noise/bandwidth trade-offs. The serial peripheral interface (SPI) and user register structure allow access to configuration controls and calibrated sensor data for embedded processor platforms. Device-specific calibration over temperature drives the internal compensation, resulting in stable sensor output without additional testing or characterization.
