Rugged Power Converter
Schaefer (Ashland, MA) offers a rugged power converter designed for subsea mineral exploration or other deep-sea application. The design features industrial-grade components and provides up to 110W of power with an adjustable, regulated 24VDC output. Units can be designed to accept a high-voltage input up to 5,000VDC, or to supply higher output voltages and/or output power. No minimum load is required for stable operation.
The converter operates with convection cooling over a temperature range of -20 to 75 °C. Dissipated heat is conducted through a single, flat aluminum surface that can be mounted to the subsea structure. Other features include remote sensing, power-OK, DC-OK, current limiting, short circuit protection, overvoltage protection, and overload protection.
