WCX 2019: IAMTS Association Will Establish Standardization and Testing for Connected Vehicles

In pursuit of developing and growing an international portfolio of advanced mobility testbeds that meet the highest quality implementation and operational standards, the China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd. (CATARC), TÜV SÜD Group , and Shanghai SH Intelligent Automotive and International Transportation Innovation Center (ITIC) have joined with SAE International  to establish the International Alliance for Mobility Testing and Standardization (IAMTS). The charter members chose SAE’s 2019 WCX World Congress Experience  in Detroit as the launch site for the new association.

Recent and rapid innovations in on- and off-road transportation, airport ground control, infrastructure, communications, and micro-mobility has exacerbated mobility system complexity and intensified the need for reliable, predictable, and replicable testing across geographies and regulatory boundaries.

“IAMTS aims to help solve some of these challenges and create a sustainable testing ecosystem for future growth,” says John Tintinalli, SAE director of innovation and IAMTS secretariat. “IAMTS joins [SAE Industry Technologies Consortia ’s] recently-announced Automated Vehicle Safety Consortium as another critical piece of SAE’s multi-pronged approach to supporting the safe advent of highly automated driving systems, vehicle connectivity, and complex, multi-modal environments.”
