Accelerating Product Development With the Digital Twin

HOSTED BY:

Advances in Industry 4.0 are enabling engineers to take their designs into the digital realm, where they can envision how their designs will survive in the real world. A digital twin of the product allows designers to rapidly create new iterations and experiment with different configurations, all without building expensive prototypes. Before a single prototype is constructed, engineers can test their designs virtually to ensure the highest quality. In this 60-minute Webinar from the editors of Tech Briefs, learn how to accelerate and optimize the product design and development process using the digital twin.

Topics include:

  • Overview of the digital twin concept including tangible and intangible scope and scale, information as substitute, and unconstrained time and space
  • Examination of the current value and expected evolution of the concept
  • Digital twin use in creating unified asset pipelines
  • Using USD as the enabling technology
  • Digital twin usage in manufacturing
  • Overview on simulation for testing, verification, and validation of autonomous vehicles (AV)
  • Digital twins for sensors, vehicles, and environment used in AV simulation
  • Case studies involving NASA, Volvo, BYD, and others

An audience Q&A session will follow the technical presentations.

Speakers:

Michael Grieves, Ph.D., Chief Scientist and Executive Director, Digital Twin Institute

Dr. Michael Grieves originated the concept of digital twins and is an internationally renowned expert on the subject as well as Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), a discipline for which he wrote the seminal book. He serves as the Chief Scientist and Executive Director of the Digital Twin Institute and has more than five decades of executive, board, and technical experience in both global and entrepreneurial technology and manufacturing companies. Dr. Grieves has consulted and performed research at some of the top global organizations (NASA, Boeing, GM, Unilever, etc.) and has served as a senior executive and/or board member at Fortune 1000 companies, entrepreneurial, and non-profit organizations. Academically he has held appointments and done research and/or taught at the University of Michigan, Purdue University, and the University of Iowa. Dr. Grieves currently has an appointment at the University of Central Florida. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Michigan State University, an MBA from Oakland University, and a Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University.
