SAE International Launches Aerospace Technology Symposium at Japan Aerospace 2018

SAE International , a global association committed to being the ultimate knowledge source for mobility engineering, is bringing together subject-matter experts from across the globe for the first SAE International Aerospace Japan Symposium, held November 29 and 30 in conjunction with Japan International Aerospace Exhibition 2018 at Tokyo Big Sight convention center in Tokyo.
The two-day technical symposium focuses specifically on emerging aerospace technologies, standardization, and certification with informative sessions on more-electric aircraft, hybrid/electric propulsion, autonomous and unmanned aircraft systems, the use of blockchain and electronic transactions in aerospace, and advanced manufacturing such as additive manufacturing. SAE International developed the technical symposium in partnership with industry and in collaboration with the Center for Aviation Innovation Research (CAIR) at the University of Tokyo, with support from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry; the Society of Japanese Aerospace Companies (SJAC); the International Aircraft Development Fund (IADF); Tokyo Big Sight Inc.; and International Council of Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS).
The SAE International Aerospace Japan Symposium–Emerging Technology and Standardization inaugural event boasts participation from subject-matter experts with Airbus; AmpAire; Boeing Commercial Airplanes; Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC); DMG MORI Co.; EP Systems; FANUC Corp.; GS Yuasa Technology; IHI Corp.; Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA); Mentor, a Siemens business; Mitsubishi Heavy Industries; Northwest UAV; RMIT University; Safran Landing Systems; SAE International; Stratasys; Subaru; and University of Tokyo.

SAE International is also announcing three new standards committees: the SAE AE-7D Aircraft Energy Storage and Charging Committee, working on an international charging standard for electric aircraft and technical reports for battery energy storage, distribution, and charging; the SAE E-40 Electrified Propulsion Committee, addressing hybrid/electric propulsion architectures and associated systems and equipment for a variety of air vehicles to progress technology development and support the regulatory framework through expert consensus documents; and the SAE G-31 Electronic Transactions for Aerospace Committee, providing guidance for the aerospace industry in implementing new technologies such as blockchain.
