Eurofighter Typhoons to Receive Touchscreen Cockpit Display Upgrades

BAE Systems has confirmed its selection of Collins Aerospace as the provider of the large area cockpit display upgrade for future Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft. According to a Sept. 13 press release, the touchscreen display upgrade will "will streamline information flow and will significantly reduce cognitive workload, allowing pilots to focus on critical tasks and maneuvers, thereby maximizing operational effectiveness."
The large area display (LAD) upgrade will be used by BAE Systems as part of its rapid capability development program, Project Medulla, which sees it investing in future technologies for use across its combat air portfolio, including Eurofighter Typhoon. The LAD will serve as a pivotal tool for pilots, consolidating critical flight data, sensor inputs and tactical information into a single, easily accessible interface.
Through real-time data feeds from radar, targeting systems, and threat detection, pilots will maintain an up-to-the-second view of the battlefield, enabling swift and precise decision-making during high-stakes engagements. With this state-of-the-art technology, combat aircraft pilots will be better equipped to manage complex aerial scenarios, optimize flight paths and respond proactively to enemy threats.

BAE Systems and Collins are developing a large area display that leverages "field-proven design elements while incorporating the latest available display technologies in order to minimize obsolescence and development schedule risks," according to the two companies.
