Renishaw Supports Formule ETS Additive Manufacturing Project

When the Formule SAE team at École de Technologie Supérieure (ÉTS) in Montreal, Canada, needed help lightweighting components for its electric vehicle, it turned to global engineering technologies company Renishaw for support.

Formule SAE wanted to build on their vehicle to create the best performing car in the history of the competition after a successful 2022 season. The main challenge was achieving a weight reduction target and designing a car that weighed 400 lb overall.

The choice of material was a key decision during the development process. Renishaw provided the Formule ETS team with technical information on powders, ranging from Young’s modulus data to fatigue test results.
