The variety of vehicle sizes and extreme duty cycles found in construction, mining, and agricultural applications poses unique challenges to the engineers working to develop optimal electrified drivetrain solutions. This 60-minute Webinar from the editors of Truck & Off-Highway Engineering reviews the latest technology advancements and engineering efforts to bring durable, cost-effective electric machines that offer sustainable solutions to these demanding operating environments.
Topics include:
- Building flexible electrification topologies
- Two-level versus three-level drives and converter — advantage and disadvantages
- Switching frequency’s impact on motor losses and efficiency
An audience Q&A session will follow the technical presentation.
Speakers:
Ettore Cosoli, Vice President of Engineering – Heavy Vehicles, Dana
Ettore Cosoli serves as the Vice President of Engineering for Dana’s Global Heavy Vehicle (HV) group with responsibility for applications, product development, and advanced engineering for Off-Highway (OH) and Commercial Vehicle (CV) Drive and Motion Systems. Specifically, he helps Dana optimize its engineering strategy within HV and have a stronger focus on knowledge-sharing and accelerating development to meet customer expectations. Prior to this role, Ettore served as Vice President of Engineering for Dana’s OH Drive and Motion Systems business through which he was responsible for applications, product development, advanced engineering, as well as supervising global quality in all aspects of the business. He joined Dana in 2006 as a Transmission Engineering Manager. Since then, Ettore has held various positions within product engineering, R&D, and advanced development, including global engineering for axle, hydrostatic, and powershift transmission systems; planetary drive systems; industrial gearboxes; and leveraging core design principles across the entire organization. Prior to joining Dana, he served as a Project Engineer and later Chief Engineer for Carraro SpA. Ettore holds a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Padova.
Gregory Pavuk, Senior Product Line Manager, Accelera by Cummins
Gregory Pavuk serves as the Senior Product Line Manager — Global Specialty ePowertrain at Accelera by Cummins, where he is the Accelera-Cummins-Meritor expert responsible for electrified powertrains in the specialty, defense, and off-highway markets. With more than 29 years at the company, he has experience in both the technical and commercial sides of the business. Greg’s knowledge helps focus the efforts to develop cost-effective solutions to meet the mobility and efficiency needs that customers and our future require. In his current role, he leverages his experience and passion for the off-highway space to ensure customer-centric technical solutions. Greg holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the GMI Engineering and Management Institute and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Oakland University.
Stefan Wicki, Global Product Manager – eMobility, ABB
Stefan Wicki serves as Global Product Manager for eMobility within the ABB Motion division. He is responsible for the product portfolio including inverters, line filters, motors, and the Battery Energy Storage System (ESS). Prior to this role, Stefan led the technical development of the newly founded ESS product line as Technology Manager and Chief Engineer. He joined ABB in 2006 as an R&D Engineer, where he has developed several PCBs and PCB-based inverters. After moving to the power electronics department, Stefan performed technical projects and led the platform for ABB’s first air-cooled traction converters. He also developed a numerical tool for calculating fundamental and harmonic losses in motors caused by converters to optimize drivetrains for better efficiency. He currently teaches PCB design, EMC, and power electronics systems at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland. Stefan holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and holds more than 15 patents in power electronics and energy storage systems.
