Wind River and Airbiquity Partner to Update Autonomous and Connected Vehicle Software Through Cloud-Based, Over-The-Air Technology

Wind River Systems, Inc. is partnering with Airbiquity, Inc. to develop a solution to proactively manage the end-to-end connected software lifecycle for connected and automated automotive vehicles through the cloud. Through this work, Wind River and Airbiquity look to enable secure and intelligent software updates and data management for these vehicles through over-the-air (OTA) programming technology. The work may also lead to similar solutions for traditional aerospace and unmanned aircraft system (UAS) industries.
This effort is becoming increasingly important to enhancing performance, maintaining value, and addressing safety and security threats for these types of vehicles. By using OTA, carmakers can securely transmit diagnostic and operational data and efficiently deploy software updates to mitigate recall expenses and enable new vehicle features.
Wind River will combine its experience in delivering Internet of Things (IoT) software for critical systems with Airbiquity’s understanding of connected vehicle services. The result will be an interoperable, comprehensive, and pre-validated OTA solution for the automotive industry built on the combination of flexible and open software technology components.
