Lexus Tops Consumer Reports' Reliability Survey
Lexus tops Consumer Reports' annual reliability survey, with the three Toyota brands (including Scion) finishing in the top 10. Asian automakers hold 7 of the tops 10 spots. Fiat finishes last among the 28 brands included in the survey, with sister brands Dodge, Ram, and Jeep, occupying the last 4 spots. Chrysler finishes 22nd. Nissan and Infiniti are the only Asian brands finishing below average. Buick is the only U.S. brand to crack the top 10, finishing in 6th place—up 10 spots from last year's rankings. All of the other U.S. brands are in the lower half of the ranking. Of the 17 problem areas Consumer Reports asks about in its survey, the category including in-car electronics generated more complaints from owners of 2014 models than for any other category. “Infotainment system problems generally don’t exist in a vacuum,” said Jake Fisher, Director of Automotive Testing at Consumer Reports, “A close look at the results suggests that cars with a lot of in-car electronic issues usually have plenty of other troubles, too.”
